Former welterweight champion Antonio Margarito's comeback fight has been postponed from May 26 to July 7 at the Casino del Sol in Tucson, Arizona. Margarito (38-8, 27KOs) suffered an Achilles tendon injury, and the doctor advised him stay off his feet for three weeks or else he risked the likely possibility of aggravating the injury and increasing the likelihood of surgery.
Margarito's fight in July will have the Mexican veteran making his debut at the middleweight limit of 160-pounds.
The show on May 26th, also at the Casino del Sol, will still move forward. Gerry Truax, of Showdown Promotions, who co-promotes the event with Top Rank, advised BoxingScene.com that possible replacements, for Margarito, include Jorge Paez Jr. and Jesus-Soto Karass. Top Rank's hot prospect Jose Benevides Jr. will still fight in the co-featured bout.
