Marcos Maidana: record, next fight and profile →
WBA 'regular' welterweight champion Keith 'One Time' Thurman (29-0, 26KOs) is looking for a major fight in the fall, and one opponent he would love to face is the former beltholder Marcos 'El Chino' Maidana (35-5, 31KOs). The two boxers were at one time scheduled to face each other a few years ago on HBO, but Maidana decided to take a pass on the fight.
Former two division world champion Marcos Maidana (35-5, 31KOs) has been out of the ring for nearly a year and is not expected back until the month of November at the earliest and he may not even fight until 2016. Maidana was last in the ring last September, losing a twelve round unanimous decision in his rematch with WBC/WBA welterweight champion Floyd Mayweather Jr. at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas.
Sebastian Contoursi, manager of Marcos Maidana (35-5, 31KOs), would like to get his fighter a rematch with Amir Khan (31-3, 19KOs). They first met in December of 2010. Maidana was dropped very hard in the first round from hook to the body. He recovered and got himself back in the fight. He lost a point for throwing an elbow in the fifth round and had Khan in serious trouble in the late rounds. Khan was able to survive and won a twelve round unanimous decision.
Former two division world champion Marcos Maidana (35-5, 31KOs) is rapidly approaching the point of a one-year layoff. Concerns have been raised after recent photos of Maidana surfaced on the internet, and the boxer appears to have gained quite a bit of weight. Maidana had three tough fights in less than a year, with his big win over Adrien Broner and then back to back Showtime pay-per-view fights against Floyd Mayweather Jr. After that rough schedule, the Argentinian puncher wanted to take some time off to relax with his family.
Trainer Jeff Mayweather, the uncle of WBC/WBA welterweight king Floyd Mayweather Jr., says his nephew received a stiffer test from Marcos Maidana than he did from the May 2nd mega-fight with Manny Pacquiao. Maidana faced Mayweather twice in 2014. The first time, last May, resulted in a highly competitive fight which generated a September rematch. Mayweather won both fights by way of twelve round decision. Pacquiao, who believes he was robbed on the official cards, allowed Mayweather to dictate the pace of their contest from the opening bell. With pace slowed to Mayweather's liking, it was easy for him to box his way to a twelve round decision win.

Former world champion and Sky Sports commentator Glenn McCrory has no idea which direction Adrien Broner will take after suffering his second career defeat on June 20th, via twelve round decision, to Shawn Porter at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas. The former three division champion suffered his first career defeat in December of 2013, when he faced Marcos Maidana in the ring. Broner was the favorite, but Maidana came out swinging, scored two knockdowns in the contest, and applied pressure all night long. Broner, who was welterweight champion at the time of the Maidana defeat, dropped down to 140-pounds. The fight with Porter took place at a catch-weight of 144.
Former welterweight champion Shawn Porter (26-1-1, 16KOs) is hoping to get a shot at Floyd Mayweather Jr. on September 12th, when the WBC/WBO/WBA champion is scheduled to return. Mayweather has not interest in the match. If Porter is unable to get Mayweather, he would love to get another former champion, Marcos Maidana (35-5, 31KOs), in the ring.
WBC/WBO/WBA welterweight champion Floyd Mayweather Jr. (48-0, 26KOs) has a close bond with Adrien Broner (30-1, 22KOs), who on Saturday night will battle Shawn Porter (25-1-1, 16KOs) at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas. Porter is the toughest opponent for Broner since he suffered the sole defeat of his career to Marcos Maidana in December 2013. In the loss to Maidana, Broner was dropped twice and he was hurt several times in the contest.
Former three division champion Adrien "The Problem" Broner (30-1, 22 KOs) is eager to avenge the only defeat of his career, a December 2012 twelve round decision loss to Marcos Maidana (35-5, 31KOs). Broner was dropped twice in the contest and took punishment during periods of the fight.
