After watching his young charge, Nav Mansouri, fall agonisingly short in his recent Prizefighter outing against Birmingham’s Terry Carruthers, promoter Dave Coldwell has wasted no time in setting up a second meeting between the pair that will take place at Rotherham’s Magna Centre in February. Despite not leaving London’s York Hall with the glory that many forecasted, Mansouri certainly played his part in the light-middleweight tournament and Coldwell is insistent that better days await the Yorkshire prospect.
“Although he didn’t get the glory that everyone at Coldwell Boxing knew he was capable of, we’re still massively proud of the way Nav conducted himself,” said Coldwell. “Terry Carruthers has been a banana skin to many young prospects that have a lot more experience than Nav but he gave it a very good go and the closeness of the cards showed just how much of a tight contest it was. Nav will become a better fighter because of the experience and our long-term plan for him is still very much on track.”
In between now and the heavily anticipated Carruthers rematch for Mansouri is an outing at the aforementioned Magna Centre on November 30th when the Rotherham man features alongside a number of Coldwell Boxing youngsters including unbeaten pair, Maxi Hughes and Chad Gaynor. Coldwell is hopeful that Mansouri will take out his Prizefighter frustrations on his next opponent before exacting revenge on Carruthers early next year
“We were hoping that this bill would feature Nav showing off his Prizefighter trophy but that isn’t to be and instead it’ll be about Nav showing everyone the character and resolve that’s needed in this sport. He was dealt a blow against Carruthers but we’ve promised him the chance of revenge and I’m certain that he’ll grab the opportunity with both hands. Saturday night was a setback but Nav is already setting his sights on putting things right and that begins on November 30th where I know he’ll bounce back in style.”
