| Malignaggi's Trainer: Pacquiao Must Establish The Jab
By Ryan Burton MGM Grand, Las Vegas, NV - BoxingScene.com ran into Eric Brown who works with WBA welterweight champion Paulie Malignaggi amongst others. The veteran trainer offered a few tidbits on the upcoming showdown between Manny Pacquiao and Tim Bradley. "The key for Manny is his jab. If he establishes his jab early, early as in the first round then he will knock Bradley out early," Brown said. He also said that if Manny doesn't get his jab going early then Manny will have a rough night. "If he doesn't use his jab then its going to be a rough fight and go the distance and I don't know who will win." Brown praised Bradley for his work ethic but also reiterated the need for Pacquiao to establish his jab. "The lefty advantage is the jab. A southpaw should always out jab an orthodox fighter. If Manny does that he will catch Bradley coming in and knock him out. Bradley has never faced that combination of speed and power," Brown concluded.
I think the answer to these 3 questions is NO. Bradley's nature is to retaliate immediately when he gets hit and he also gets over excited when he thinks his opponent is in trouble (trips on himself, smothers his own punches, etc). On a big stage like this, Bradley could easily... |
Very true. Will Bradley be able to maintain the level of discipline needed to not get too reckless for the entire 12 rounds? Will his chin be able to hold up, assuming he's not able to consistently get away from Pac's combinations? Will he be able to adjust effectively?
