Maidana vs. Soto Karass in Play For Canelo-Lopez

By Rick Reeno

BoxingScene.com has been advised that Marcos Maidana (31-3, 28KOs) will likely take on Jesus Soto Karass (26-7-3, 17KOs) on the Saul Alvarez-Josesito Lopez undercard at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas. The fight will be contracted to take place at welterweight and their styles will certainly create a fight filled with fireworks. Showtime will televise.

Maidana will return from a ten round decision loss to Devon Alexander in February, while Soto Karass is riding a two fight win streak since the January TKO loss to strong junior middleweight Gabriel Rosado.

No part of me is interested in this fight. Soto Karass has moved on from a 15-20 type of contender to gatekeeper to irrelevant. How is he going to get Maidana ready for any of the top 10-15 Welterweights? Would…
