Magee vs Markussen Negotiations Fall Apart Over Money

By Per Ake Persson

It was never on but now it´s officially off - WBA interim-super middleweight champion Brian Magee will not defend his portion of the title against Danish boxer Rudy Markussen.

As of later Friday, a deal was reported to be close to being finalized but yesterday evening the news came that the fight was off.

Promoter Nisse Sauerland, quoted in Ekstrabladet, said negotiations fell apart due to financial differences, but another possible factor are the fight options that semi-retired Hall of Fame promoter Mogens Palle has on Magee. Another detail that may have caused a problem is that Sauerland appears to be out of a TV deal for the Danish market

Sauerland tells Ekstrabladet that a new opponent will be found for Markussen and that he expects a deal by Monday.

As for Magee, well, it all appears to be up in the air again.

Too bad. This was the perfect fight for Markussen. It appeared as if Magee was ready, which makes mé wonder if Markussen priced himself out. Damn.
