Magdaleno/Ugas ShoBox Double Becomes a Tripleheader

TUCSON, Ariz. – Casino Del Sol Resort, Spa and Conference Center, southern Arizona’s premier resort destination announced today that it will host Showtime, boxing’s leading channel, in one of its signature programs, “ShoBox: The New Generation.”

During a press conference on Feb. 8 at Casino Del Sol Resort, boxing promoter Showdown Promotions, in association with Top Rank Inc., announced the televised bouts on March 23 at 6 p.m. at the Casino Del Sol Resort Event Center. The event, called Firepower, will feature 25-year-old Las Vegas super featherweight Diego Magdaleno (21-0, 7 KOs), taking on heavy-handed Mexican, Miguel “Barreterito” Beltran Jr. (26-1, 17 KOs), out of Los Mochis, Sinaloa, for the North American Boxing Federation (NABF) Super Featherweight Championship.

The supporting bout is as anticipated as the main event and will feature a battle between two undefeated light welterweights. Cuban standout, Yordenis Ugas (11-0, 5 KOs), will take on Michigan banger, Juan “Johnny” Garcia (11-0, 8Kos), in an eight round war, as both fighters look to remain unbeaten.

Joining the televised portion of the program will be another undefeated star-in-the-making. Super flyweight, Hanzel "El Tornadito" Martinez (15-0, 12 KOs), brother-in-law of the Tijuana Tornado, Antonio Margarito, returns to Arizona and takes on his toughest test as he puts his unbeaten streak at risk against tough Mexican fighter, Alex “Chino” Rangel (13-1, 7 KOs), from nearby Ciudad Obregon, Sonora.

Also in action on March 23 will be undefeated Arizona junior middleweight Juanito Gonzalez (4-0, 3 KOs), celebrating a violent knockout of rangy Ohioan Wendall Bates in Parker, Ariz.

Tickets go on sale at 10 a.m. at www.CasinoDelResort.com or the Casino Del Sol Resort gift shop.
