Luis Cruz's Take on Chavez vs. Martinez, Ramos Bout

By Ryan Burton recently reported that a fight between super featherweight contender Luis Cruz (20-1) and prospect Casey Ramos (16-0) was being discussed for a special September 13th edition of ESPN Friday Night Fights.

The Puerto Rican fighter told us that he is excited to be fighting in Las Vegas two days before the Julio Cesar Chavez Jr-Sergio "Maravilla" Martinez pay-per-view mega event and gave us his thoughts on the fight.

"The Maravilla versus Chavez fight is a must see fight. It is what makes boxing exciting and interesting," Cruz stated. "On one hand you have Chavez who is a lot bigger and stronger and on the other you have Maravilla who is faster, has better defense and has faced better opposition."

The 26 year-old Cruz hopes a victory over Ramos puts him back on track to a title shot.  He was on the right path until he lost a decision to Juan Carlos Burgos last November. Cruz said that he would love to get a chance to avenge his loss.

"There are a lot of good fighters at 130 pounds. I definitely would love to fight Burgos again," Cruz told BoxingScene.

I was a fan of Cruz until the Burgos fight. Yeah he lost, but men, what an awful performance by a guy that had a celebrated amateur background.

I actually saw the fight where he lost. He looked OK but he was way too inactive looking to counter. Has a very good chin and was fresh at the end of the bout but the right man won.

Didn't really give an analysis of the fight though. Chavez has a melt down in training and Sergio eats him up like a hungry lion attacking an injured caribou.
