BoxingsScene.com first reported that a super featherweight clash of prospects Luis Cruz (20-1) and Casey Ramos (16-0) was in the works for September 13th at the Hard Rock Hotel and Casino in Las Vegas. The fight was to serve as the co-feature to Jessie Vargas' (19-0) Top Rank debut against Aron Martinez (18-1).
The card will be televised as a special Thursday edition of ESPN's Friday Night Fights.
According to our sources Ramos' team turned down the fight and negotiations are underway for undefeated Dominican Eudy Bernardo (13-0, 8 KOs) to step in and face Cruz.
The fight card is getting special attention as it is a primer to the Julio Cesar Chavez Jr-Sergio Martinez HBO pay-per-view event that takes place September 15th at the Thomas & Mack Center, just down the road from the Hard Rock.
