Lucian Bute: record, next fight and profile →
MONTREAL - The "BUTE VS ALVAREZ" press conference was held today in Quebec City for this Friday night's championship fight between undefeated World Boxing Council (WBC) Silver light heavyweight champion Eleider "Storm" Alvarez and former super middleweight world champion Lucian Bute (32-3-1, 25 KOs) at Videotron Centre in Quebec City, Canada.
Back in 2013, Adonis Stevenson knocked out Chad Dawson in the first round to capture the WBC light heavyweight world title. Dawson (34-4, 19 KOs) has not been impressed with Stevenson's reign as champion. Dawson explained that during his own reign he always fought the best available opponents and Stevenson is doing the complete opposite. During his two title runs, Dawson fought Antonio Tarver twice, Bernard Hopkins twice, and Glen Johnson twice.
MONTREAL - Former world super middleweight champion Lucian Bute plans to parlay his February 24th Canadian showdown with undefeated World Boxing Council (WBC) Silver light heavyweight champion Eleider "Storm" Alvarez into his 14th world title fight later this year.
Undefeated World Boxing Council (WBC) Silver light heavyweight champion Eleider “Storm” Alvarez is on a mission to showcase his talent throughout the boxing world, February 24 against former world super middleweight champion Lucian Bute, to completely justify his No. 1 contender position.

Fittingly, James DeGale was quick to point out what he considers his greatest advantages over Badou Jack. “Oh, there’s loads,” DeGale said during a recent conference call. “But I’m going to throw you one that stands out – it’s just speed, movement.” London’s DeGale (23-1, 14 KOs) didn’t divulge details from his game plan, yet he made it clear his speed and athletic ability are among the primary reasons he’ll handle Jack (20-1-2, 12 KOs) on Saturday night in their super middleweight title unification fight at Brooklyn’s Barclays Center (Showtime; 9:30 p.m. ET/6:30 p.m. PT).
On February 24th, #1 rated light heavyweight Eleider Alvarez (21-0) will risk his mandatory position in the WBC rankings when he faces former champion Lucian Bute (32-3-1) in Quebec City, Quebec. The winner of the fight will then face WBC/Lineal light heavyweight champion Adonis Stevenson (28-1), who is expected to announce his ring return in the near future.
James DeGale was not the least bit surprised when Lucian Bute failed a test for a performance-enhancing drug taken around the time of his fight against Badou Jack. DeGale, who’ll box Jack in a super middleweight championship unification fight January 14 at Brooklyn’s Barclays Center (Showtime), told BoxingScene.com he suspects Bute took a PED prior to their November 2015 bout in Quebec City, Canada. London’s DeGale beat Bute by unanimous decision in that 12-round fight for DeGale’s IBF super middleweight championship.
Former 168-pounder world champion Lucian Bute is once again moving up to 175 pounds in search of a new world championship. He hopes to land a showdown against countryman Adonis Stevenson - but first Bute must overcome undefeated Eleider Álvarez on the 24th of February in Quebec City.
