Lucas Matthysse Knocks Out Priotti, Targets Erik Morales

By Jhonny Gonzalez

Club Ciclista Juninense, Junín, Buenos Aires, Argentina - Top junior welterweight contender Lucas Matthysse (29-2, 27KOs) returned for the first time since his close split decision loss to Devon Alexander in June, and knocked out overmatched Sergio Omar Priotti (25-11) in four rounds. Matthysse would like to get a shot at the WBC 140-pound champion Erik Morales. He was scheduled to face Morales for the vacant WBC title in September on the Mayweather-Ortiz card in Las Vegas. He became ill and had to withdraw as the fight drawed near. Matthysse was replaced by unbeaten but inexperienced Pablo Cesar Cano, who Morales stopped in ten rounds to capture the title.

Mattysse vs Rios is the thing that makes most sense, Maidana is moving up to 147 and Khan most likely is as well. Bradley is chasing a payday but since hes with Arum now who knows maybe it will be…

I don't blame the guy for wanting El Terrible BUT come on, he had his chance and withdrew! Wouldn't be surprised if Morales avoided that fight now. Like they say...get while the gettin's good!
