Junior welterweight contender Lucas 'The Machine' Matthysse (36-3, 34KOs) has a working return date of February 28th. The opponent is unknown, but the Argentine fighter is looking to get his hands on the vacant WBO championship.
Matthysse was in action twice in 2014. He stopped John Molina in April in a 'Fight of The Year' candidate. He was down twice in the contest and came back to drop Molina three times for a stoppage win.
Matthysse is the number one ranked contender to the WBO title. The belt became vacant when Chris Algieri moved up to challenge Manny Pacquiao for the WBO title at 147-pounds. Algieri is the number two ranked contender.
"I have date of February 28, with two or three opponents [being discussed]. The WBO super lightweight title is vacant at 140 pounds. I'm number one so right now we are waiting for confirmation on the opponent, the location and the date," Matthysse told Fox Deportes.
