Lou DiBella on Ajose, Berto, Rodriguez, Rosinky, More

by Ryan Burton
We recently spoke to promoter Lou DiBella on a recent edition of's official audio show, The Boxing Lab.  You can listen to the interview in its entirety by following this link: .
The New York based promoter touched on a variety of topics including a future fight between newly crowned WBC junior welterweight champion Danny Garcia and Ajose Olusegun who is the organization's number one rated contender.  DiBella, who co-promotes Olusegun along with Gary Shaw, said that he felt that it should have been his fighter in the ring against Erik Morales instead of Garcia but that he intends to get his fighter a shot at the title soon.
"Ajose should have won the championship the other night but they denied him the opportunity by allowing Garcia to fight him (Morales). Garcia should fight him next but we will see what happens," DiBella told The Boxing Lab.
DiBella also dispelled rumors that two time welterweight champion Andre Berto won't be ready for a summer rematch against Victor Ortiz.  Both fighters hit the canvas twice in their intial fight that took place this past April.  The rematch was supposed to take place in February but Berto tore his biceps a week before the fight.
"Berto's rehab is on course. We are planning on having a press conference in LA to announce the fight soon. As far as I know we should be on course for the fight on June 23rd at Staples," DiBella stated.
Super middleweight prospect Edwin Rodriguez (21-0) is another DiBella promoted fighter whom the promoter holds in igh regard.  The 26-year old defeated Donovan George via unanimous decision in his HBO debut on March 17th.  While DiBella is high on his prospect, he cautioned that the Dominican fighter may need a little bit more seasoning before he is ready for the elite fighters in the loaded super middleweight division.
"In my mind Edwin is one of my best young fighters but I don't think that he's ready for a Bute or Ward yet," stated DiBella. "I think he's ready for step lower like Don George. I'm also looking at a Rosinksy rematch as well but Will might need a couple fights build himself back up," he concluded.
Rodriguez and Rosinksy fought an entertaining fight this past October on  an edition of Showtime's prospect based series, ShoBox.  Most observers felt that the fight was close even though Rodriguez won every round on all three judges scorecards.

Edwin Rodriguez looks legit thus far. He has a ton of skills. Berto better fix those stamina issues, or else Ortiz is going to beat him again. Ajose would be a great first defense for Danny Garcia, we'll see what…
