Top Rank's CEO Bob Arum is focused on finalizing a unification between World Boxing Organization (WBO) super featherweight champion Vasyl Lomachenko of Ukraine and title holder of the World Boxing Association (WBA), Zezreel Corrales of Panama.
Arum says the two HBO televised dates his company is targeting is the 8th or 15th of April.
"Lomachenko will fight on the 8th or 15th of April. We have not yet concluded the negotiations with his opponent, but most likely it will be a unification bout with Corrales," Arum said.
Lomachenko, who captured two Olympic gold medals and is considered to be one of the best amateurs in history, is now regarded in the pro ranks as one of the best pound for pound fighters in the world.
Last year, Lomachenko became a two-division world champion by knocking out Rocky Martinez in April, and then came back in November to pull out a very dominating stoppage win over previously undefeated Nicholas Walters. Lomachenko has a record of seven wins (five by KO) and one defeat.
Corrales, who has a record of 21 wins (8 by KO) and one defeat, captured the WBA title in the first half of 2016 with a shocking two round knockout of undefeated Takashi Uchiyama. To prove the victory was no fluke, Corrales beat Uchiyama for a second time with a twelve round decision - when they collided in a rematch last month in Japan.
