Loeffler: Cotto-Golovkin is Biggest New York Fight

By Bill "Two Scoops" Emes

Promoter Tom Loeffler of K2 Promotions, who handle the career of WBA/IBO middleweight champion Gennady Golovkin (30-0, 27KOs), feels confident that a fight between his feared boxer from Kazakhstan, and WBC middleweight Miguel Cotto (39-4, 32KOs) - is currently the biggest possible fight that anyone can stage on New York soil.

Last Saturday night, Golovkin headlined the big room of New York's Madison Square Garden for the very first time. Cotto has solidified himself as the biggest ticket seller in New York, with a long history of headlining blockbuster events at MSG.

Loeffler views a Cotto-Golovkin showdown as an instant hit for New York and especially MSG.

"I think that's an electric fight at Madison Square Garden. [MSG] has such a tremendous history. It's clearly the biggest fight that can be put in New York right now.  We would be happy to have it here in the Garden. Again, Cotto would be the A-side in the fight so we would let him dictate the terms, and Top Rank. But that would be a fight that I know a lot of fans and a lot of media would like to see," Loeffler told BoxingScene.com.

Based on the recent commentary from Cotto's team, and Top Rank, Golovkin is not being highly considered for Cotto's upcoming return in December. Down the line? Most insiders don't expect it. What they do expect is for Cotto to target a mega-fight with Saul "Canelo" Alvarez of Mexico. Despite the unlikelihood of the fight, at least in the near future, Loeffler will continue his pursuit of the biggest fights possible for Golobkin.

"[Cotto is] a proven warrior and you can't take anything away from him. He had a great performance against Sergio Martinez. He's the WBC middleweight champion of the world. In order to prove who's the best middleweight, my job is to go out and get the biggest fights for Gennady. That's just a lot of praise for Cotto. He's fought at the Garden nine times already...sold it out pretty much every time he's fought - and that's a huge fight," Loeffler said.
Can these dumb Cotto fans just admit they don't want a fight with GGG cause they know Cotto will get his ass kicked. Sergio's mandatory was also Rubio and didn't fight him. All this mandatory excuse is bs.
Rubio's been…
He won't relinquish that MW title. He'll stay at MW, for better or worse. As for the Bradley statement, I mean if both fights are at MW. TB has no business at 160. They want to hold off on…
I've been saying it'll be Rubio for December, Canelo for May. GGG won't get his shot until fall 2015 at the earliest. He's been ranked in RING's top 10 for over a year. He's solid, world class MW. Much…
Legit top 10? :lol1: He's another Delvin Rodriguez in the division. Weren't you one of the fan boys that was defending Cotto to only go for big fights? :dunce:
I've been saying it'll be Rubio for December, Canelo for May.…
