Current WBF Super middleweight world champion and IBF super middleweight Australasian champion Les “Lock N Load” Sherrington yesterday celebrated his 30th birthday in training camp at Smithy’s Gym in Toowoomba.
However there was no traditional celebrations that would usually mark a 30th birthday, instead after blowing out the candles on a small cake (which couldn’t be eaten as Les is in the process of dropping down a weight division) the boxer who is in training camp for the biggest fight of his life trained as such and pushed through a grueling 10 round sparring session with three different boys.
“I wouldn’t have it any other way,” said Sherrington.
“I’m going into the biggest fight of my career and every day counts, so I was very happy to get through the 10 rounds with 3 fresh sparring partners.”
Les is preparing to fight Mexican knockout king Luis Ramon “Yuri Boy” Campus. Campus possesses 100 wins with 79 knockouts and has had wars the superstars of the sport with the likes of Felix Trinidad, Fernando Vargas and Oscar De La Hoya.
To add to the challenge for Les, he will be dropping down a weight division in a bid to claim the vacant WBF Middleweight word title as well as the IBF Pan Pacific middleweight title with a win over Campus.
The fight will take place on July 28 at the Gold Coast Convention and Exhibition center and tickets are available now at ticketek.com.au at just $20 for children and $37 dollars for adults.
