Leo Santa Cruz Punishes Eric Morel To Make Him Quit

By Luis Sandoval

MGM Grand, Las Vegas - IBF bantamweight champion Leo Santa Cruz (21-0-1, 12KOs) not only outworked but also punished Eric Morel (46-4, 23KOs) in his first title defense. Santa Cruz was a machine in the ring as he kept constant pressure on Morel with a body attack that wore him down. Morel was game at first as he tried to match Santa Cruz’s pace but he just wasn't able to keep up. It was impressive to see Santa Cruz break down Morel with the signature left hook to the body but also bringing his attack back upstairs to finish with uppercuts and left hooks. After 5 rounds, it was too much for Morel who looked done and did not come out of the corner for the 6th round - giving Santa Cruz his 21st victory.

I've got 3 broken ribs just for watching the fight. I was impressed by Leo Santa Cruz size and skills but how good is his chin?

If it's anyone who scares me at 122 it's Moreno, Santa Cruz should avoid.

Very impressed with this kid. He is relentless. Morel had his time. Good decision to acccept that he is done. Three kids to raise. Much respect but time to hang it up.

Cruz is a crazy body/volume puncher who's relentless but he looks to post up shoulder to shoulder and bang away anyone who tries this with him better pack some heat or they'll be in trouble unless they have superior movement…
