WBC super bantamweight champion, Leo Santa Cruz (27-0-1, 15 KOs) will defend his title against world ranked Manuel Roman (17-2-3, 6 KOs) on September 13th at the MGM Grand Las Vegas, on the undercard of the rematch bout between Mayweather and Maidana.
A victory would propel Santa Cruz, ever closer to a showdown with Cuba's WBA/WBO champion Guillermo Rigondeaux (14-0, 9 KOs). They've both been challenging each other via ping pong on their social networks.
Santa Cruz would love to face Rigondeaux before a planned move to featherweight in 2015.
"Rigondeaux has been saying that I'm scared, and we could easily fight. Right now only the fight against Manuel Roman is on my mind. But afterwards we 'll see what comes," Santa Cruz said.
"I have already said that I want to fight Rigondeaux. I know he's a tough opponent, but I don't care. No opponent is invincible and inside the ring all the words that were said carry zero weight."
"I want to give the fans what they deserve. I want to please them and if they are happy with that fight, I am happy."
