Lennox Pleads With Price to Get Mean With Thompson

LENNOX LEWIS has demanded that David Price becomes ‘Mr Nasty’ if he wants to become world heavyweight champion.

Price was stopped by American Tony Thompson, 41, inside two rounds in February.

But the British and Commonwealth champion, 29, wants revenge at Liverpool’s Echo Arena tonight.

After his only loss in 16 fights, the 6ft 8in Scouser teamed up with Lewis, who has become his mentor ahead of the big rematch.

Price and trainer Franny Smith spent three weeks in Canada with Lewis.

And for the past fortnight the former world heavyweight king has been in Liverpool overseeing his student’s preparations.

Lewis, who retired nearly 10 years ago as undisputed world heavyweight champion after beating current WBC title holder Vitali Klitschko, said: “David needs to get meaner.

“He’s one of those guys who if you tell him to knock a guy’s head off, he’ll knock his head off.

“But he’ll pick it up, put it back on the guy’s head and say, ‘Sorry’.

“I want him to go and knock the guy’s head off and leave it there.

“I think he will do that to Thompson because he took something away from him.

“And he was a little bit embarrassed.”

But Thompson, who has only lost three times in 40 battles, said: “We’ve come over here to repeat the first performance.

“I want to prove that I’m the better fighter.

“For me, this is an easy fight.”

Lewis would not be the first former outstanding champion to be a poor judge of form and talent... .......having said that, I don't think he is so myopic or out-of-touch with the business to waste his time on an absolute…

[QUOTE=yoz;13534944]Lennox is right, Price needs to knuckle down and learn how to win ugly. He doesn't need to blast his opponent out in 2-3 rounds; he should to chip away, pump his jab, throw combinations and then, when he's broken…
