HEAVYWEIGHT legend Lennox Lewis has backed David Price to show February’s defeat by American Tony Thompson was a “fluke”.
Lewis has been mentoring the 29-year-old in the build-up to Saturday night’s rematch at the Liverpool Echo Arena.
The defeat – a second-round KO at his home venue – was the first of Price’s career and was a blow to his hopes of fighting for a world title this year.
And Lewis, who retired as undisputed world champion in 2004, said: “He’s in this fight for redemption. He wants to prove to the world this was just a fluke and I think he has got the mental capacity to do that.”
Price believes victory in the bout against Thompson, 41, could be huge for his career and said: “It’s make-or-break time, isn’t it? If I do what I am capable of it will give me the self-belief to overcome big setbacks.”Tags: David Price , Tony Thompson , Price-Thompson , Price vs Thompson
