Lenin Castillo: record, next fight and profile →

Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, Tottenham - Lenin Castillo suffered a devastating second-round knockout at the hands of Callum Smith and was carried from the ring on a stretcher.

Lenin Castillo had almost twice as much time to prepare for his fight with Callum Smith on Saturday night than his shot at Dmitry Bivol’s light heavyweight title. Castillo barely was given three weeks’ notice when he challenged the unbeaten Bivol for his WBA 175-pound crown in October 2019 in Chicago. Bivol beat Castillo convincingly in their 12-rounder, by scores of 120-107, 119-108 and 119-108.

Callum Smith admits that he just wasn’t good enough to beat Canelo Alvarez on December 19. The former WBA super middleweight champion won’t blame problems making weight, a truncated training camp or anything other than that indisputable fact for his lopsided loss to Alvarez in their 12-round, 168-pound title fight nine months ago at Alamodome in San Antonio. Liverpool’s Smith simply is looking forward to fighting for the first time at the light heavyweight limit of 175 pounds when he encounters Lenin Castillo in a 10-rounder Saturday night in London.

Oleksandr Usyk was heavier Friday for the biggest fight of his career than any of his first 18 professional fights. Anthony Joshua still outweighed him by nearly 19 pounds at O2 Arena in London. The 6-feet-6 Joshua stepped on the British Boxing Board of Control’s scale at 240 pounds for their 12-round heavyweight title fight Saturday night in London.

Former super middleweight world champion Callum Smith is hungry to bounce back from his first career defeat, which took place last December. Smith traveled over to Texas and he was dominated over twelve rounds in his super middleweight clash with Saul 'Canelo' Alvarez.

Details of the supporting cast to Anthony Joshua’s huge IBF, WBA, WBO and IBO Heavyweight World Title showdown with Oleksandr Usyk at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium on Saturday September 25 have been confirmed.

Callum Smith will face an opponent who has lost to one of boxing’s unbeaten light heavyweight champions in Smith’s debut at the 175-pound limit. BoxingScene.com has learned Smith and Lenin Castillo have agreed to fight September 25 in London. The Smith-Castillo clash will be part of the Anthony Joshua-Oleksandr Usyk undercard at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium and is expected to be broadcast by Sky Sports Box Office during a pay-per-view broadcast in the United Kingdom and Ireland.

The quarter-finals for the light heavyweight edition of the huge #GoldenContract have been confirmed. Eight high-class hopefuls from the 175lb division will compete for a lucrative deal with one of the world’s top promoters at the Brentwood Centre on December 14 – live on Sky Sports in the UK in association with Matchroom Boxing and on ESPN+ in the US in association with Top Rank.
