Middleweight contender David Lemieux (37-3, 33 KOs) is still be enjoying his spectacular early knockout of the year contender over Curtis Stevens from earlier this month.

Lemieux is hoping to land a shot at his Golden Boy Promotions stablemate, Saul "Caenlo" Alvarez (48-1-1, 34 KOs).

Golden Boy's matchmaker Roberto Díaz revealed that a collision with ‘Canelo’ could be in the works down the line.

Diaz revealed that Lemieux is under serious consideration to fight on the upcoming HBO Pay-Per-View undercard to Canelo's battle with countryman Julio Cesar Chavez Jr., which takes place on May 6th at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas. The fight takes place at a catch-weight of 164.5-pounds.

Lemieux was a part of Canelo's undercard last May, which also took place at T-Mobile.  On that card, Lemieux stopped Glen Tapia in four rounds, while Canelo knocked out Amir Khan in the main event.

“It was a spectacular knockout, obviously we are glad that Curtis is okay.  Lemieux is dangerous because he punches so hard.  We saw that Golovkin pressured Danny, he went after him, or he tried to, and Danny is a puncher.  With Lemieux he didn’t do that, he was very cautious.  He came out and showed a jab, boxed, he respected his power because it’s for real," Diaz told BoxingScene.com.

“He’s being considered for the ‘Canelo’ undercard and he could be a potential opponent for ‘Canelo’, that’s a hell of a match-up.”

Beyond the fight with Chavez, there are ongoing discussions for Canelo to fight IBF, IBO, WBA, WBC middleweight champion Gennady Golovkin in September - provided Canelo wins in May and Golovkin comes through victorious in a potential fight in June.

If Golovkin and Canelo are unable to reach an agreement for the fall, then Lemieux would become a leading candidate to fight the Mexican star.
