As previously reported, WBA junior middleweight champion Erislandy Lara (21-2-2, 12KOs) could be moving up to the middleweight sooner than anyone had expected, according to his manager Luis DeCubas Jr.
On November 25, Lara will defend his title against big under Jan Zaveck, who held the IBF world title in the welterweight division. The fight headlines a Premier Boxing Champions [PBC] on ESPN from the Hialeah Park Race Track in Florida.
DeCubas Jr. would be very willing to put his boxer in the ring against WBA/IBO/IBF middleweight champion Gennady 'GGG' Golovkin (34-0, 31KOs).
Lara called for this fight earlier this year, but Golovkin's team had little interest in the bout. They were skeptical that HBO would pay enough money to satisfy Lara's financial requirements for such a fight.
DeCubas Jr. feels Golovkin would have a lot of problems with Lara's style.
"If I could I would put him in with Golovkin. He is tremendous fighter, one of the best fighters in the world but he's never faced anyone with the quality and the style of Lara," DeCubas Jr. told ESPN Deportes.
