Super welterweight Erislandy Lara 15-1-1 (10 KO's) of Cuba, recently left Florida and moved to Houston, Texas. After being frustrated that his scheduled fight with Ronald Hearns was canceled, he made a decision to move to Texas to better his future in the sport.

The fight with Hearns was orginally scheduled to take place on February 11 in Las Vegas, but the entire show was canceled after Andre Berto, headling the card against Victor Ortiz, suffered a bicep injury and withdrew from the contest.

Lara informed BoxingScene.com of the strong possibility that his fight with Hearns will get rescheduled to a Showtime televised date of April 14. The planned main event for the show is a middleweight bout between Jermain Taylor and Joachim Alcine.

Lara is waiting for confirmation of the date, but he already plans to open up his training camp on Monday, February 27th.

“It’s not official. I've heard something about this date, and obviously my manager and my promoters have to confirm it. Nevertheless, we think that the best thing to do is to be prepared and in shape so that there are no surprises [if the date is confirmed]. We want to fight and win,” Lara said.

Lara further explained his move to Houston.

“It’s the best thing that we can do, my trainer Ronnie Shields lives in Houston and we think making this move is the best thing for my career."
