BoxingScene.com was recently informed that several fighters, including Alfredo Angulo, James Kirkland, Austin Trout, Vanes Martiroysan and Sergei Dzinziruk, turned down offers to face junior middleweight Erislandy Lara for Nov. 5 on HBO in Cancun, Mexico. Because of his inability to land an opponent, it appears the former Cuban amateur star is possibly going to have his next fight pushed back to early 2012.
Lara was very upset with the news.
"It's a shame that boxing works this way. I just wan to fight. Its disgusting that these so-called fighters can hide behind their promoters. Angulo is the biggest punk of them all. He's always saying no one wants to fight him and behind closed doors he turns me down. He's a Maricon [Spanish for homosexual]. I offered to go to Mexico to fight him. Kirkland acts like the prison yard tough guy but I think he's a little sweet. Trout, he's not worth mentioning because he would never fight me. Vanes (laughs), and Dzinziruk is a guy I thought would accept but he's another clown. And Canelo Alvarez is a spoiled b*tch."
"I want to move up to 160-pounds to fight pound-for-pound Sergio Martinez. The way things where set up for Paul Williams, he needed to beat me and fight Martinez in a trilogy....well things didn't go as planned. I beat Williams and I deserve a shot at the great Marivilla Martinez. And when it comes down to it..nobody....not Maywheater, Pacquiao, Cotto or Chavez, can beat Martinez. I have the style to beat him and I am willing to move up to get the opportunity. I hope Martinez grants me the opportunity after watching me beat up and break down Williams for twelve rounds."
