WBA interim junior middleweight champion Erislandy Lara (19-1-2, 12KOs) would love to get his hands on Mexican superstar Saul "Canelo" Alvarez. (42-1-1, 30KOs), but he doesn't feel confident about the fight ever happening. Lara is coming off a dominating decision victory over former champion Austin Trout, who gave Canelo a serious run for his money in April.
Canelo, coming off a decision loss to Floyd Mayweather Jr., has a scheduled Showtime Pay-Per-View return date on March 8th at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas. His opponent has not been determined.
"I did my work in the ring. The excuses are over. I'm a world champion and Canelo is not. He lost his last fight clearly. I have no problem giving him the opportunity. Canelo just has to get in the ring. It's up to Golden Boy, my manager Luis DeCubas Jr. and Al Haymon to make it happen. I'm not that confident Canelo will fight me because I think he's scared of me. I think the fight would be easy for me, no problem. It would look like the Mayweather fight, exactly like that," Lara told BoxingScene.com.
