Lamont Peterson to Return Aug. 9 at Barclays Center

 by David P. Greisman

Junior-welterweight titleholder Lamont Peterson will be back in the ring on Aug. 9 in a card airing live on Showtime from the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, New York, according to a post on Facebook from Team Peterson spokesman Andre Johnson.

“Details to come,” Johnson wrote.

That would be the same date and location as a presumed welterweight title bout between Shawn Porter and his mandatory challenger, Kell Brook.

Peterson, 30, of Washington, D.C., last fought in January, outpointing Dierry Jean to improve to 32-2-1 with 16 KOs. That was Peterson’s first win since getting taken out in three rounds by Lucas Matthysse in May 2013, a bout that was not for Peterson’s title as the contracts called for a catch-weight of 141 pounds.
