There are a lot of definitive opinions that have been given by boxers, and other people with shreds of common sense, that the upcoming fight between Floyd Mayweather and Conor McGregor is "an event" as opposed to a competitive boxing match.

Laila Ali, daughter of the greatest of all time Muhammad Ali, embarking on her own remarkable career – finishing 24-0 with 21 knockouts as one of the best women to ever do it.

Ali spoke with For The Win ahead of her third time hosting the ESPN Sports Humanitarian Awards on July 11, and shared these pearls of wisdom in regards to the Mayweather vs. McGregor fight - which takes place on August 26th, via Showtime Pay-Per-View, from the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas.

McGregor, who is arguably the biggest star in mixed martial arts and a two-division UFC world champion, has no professional boxing experience and mostly due to that he's been labeled as a tremendous underdog in the fight.

McGregor can punch, but can he replicate that punching power while wearing 10-ounce boxing gloves in a junior middleweight contest, and can he land anything of note against one of the best defensive fighters in boxing history.

Ali says nobody should be pissed off if the contest ends early.

“I just think that fans need to just know that it’s for fun,” Ali said with a chuckle. “Easy for me to say – I’m not going to be in the ring. But you’ve got a UFC fighter, who has no boxing experience, fighting one of the best fighters in the world.

“So if you buy the fight, you know, don’t be pissed if it ends too fast or it wasn’t competitive. I’m going to be asking, ‘What did you expect?’ If you think it’s going to be a good fight then you’re stupid and you get what you deserve.”
