Veteran trainer John David Jackson is completely speechless at how his fighter, Sergey Kovalev (30-1-1, 26KOs), was the loser in last Saturday's fight with Andre Ward (31-0, 15KOs).

Ward, who was down in the second round, won a twelve round unanimous decision to capture Kovalev's WBA, IBF, WBO light heavyweight titles at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas. All three judges scored the fight 114-113.

"I couldn't even tell you [how they scored it for Ward]. I couldn't even speculate why. All of the fans, HBO announcers had Sergey winning the fight. He dominated the fight. He let Andre win a couple of rounds. Listen, I gave him four rounds at most. It was a competitive fight to a degree. I think Sergey is the better overall fighter right now," Jackson told BoxingScene.com.

Jackson was keeping score in the corner, and he had Kovalev up by at least eight rounds, with a knockdown, when the final bell sounded. He does give Ward credit for surviving the second round and recovering to make things competitive down the stretch.

"[Kovalev] was the aggressor. He made the fight. He gave a away a few rounds and I give Andre a lot of credit for what he did, he survived. I had it 9-3, 8-4 at best. Sergey won the fight. I'm not knocking Andre, but Andre lost the fight," Jackson said.

Jackson felt Kovalev stepped off the gas just a little bit in the second and potentially allowed a knockout victory to slip away.

"Once [Ward] got up, his defensive mechanisms kicked in and he survived the round. I don't think Sergey [tried to] get him out of there like he should have because I think he could have knocked him out," Jackson said.
