Sergey Kovalev, and his trainer John David Jackson, are lashing out at WBA Super, IBF and WBO world light heavyweight champion Andre Ward.

Last November at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, Kovalev (30-1-1, 26 KOs) suffered the first defeat of his pro career when he dropped a twelve round unanimous decision to Ward. In the process Kovalev lost all three of his world titles.

Ward (31-0, 15 KOs), who got up from a knockdown in the second round, won on scores of 114-113 from all three of the official judges.

There was an immediate rematch clause in the contract, and Kovalev exercised that option, but their negotiations to finalize the second fight have been dragging out for months.

Kovalev has already signed the rematch agreement and right now he's waiting on Ward to ink his name on the contract.

"A couple of days ago I signed a new memo for a rematch which was sent to me by Roc Nation. Still waiting on 'Son of Judges' to sign it," Kovalev stated.

Jackson has serious doubts about Ward's desire to take part in a rematch, especially after the Olympic gold medal winner threatened to retire instead of moving forward with a second Kovalev fight. Ward was unhappy with some of the terms related to the rematch, but he's contractually bound to face Kovalev next.

"Andre Ward doesn't want the rematch or he is lying and cheating the fans. He initially wanted to retire and now is asking for it to be delayed," Jackson said.

There is a target date of June 17th in Las Vegas. More than likely the second fight, like the first, will end up on HBO Pay-Per-View. Kovalev's promoter, Main Events, is trying to tie up any loose ends with Roc Nation Sports, who handle Ward. Kovalev's side is hoping to finalize the details sooner than later.
