Korobov Plans to Come Back on Gamboa vs Rios Bill

By Alexey Sukachev and Christian Yula

Russian middleweight hope Matvey Korobov (17-0, 10 KOs), ranked #13 by the WBO, fell into relative obscurity as of late. However, the former two-time amateur world champion is planning a big comeback in 2012. Korobov, already 29, spoke to Christian Yula about his upcoming plans.

“I would have fought on March 9 but the entire show was cancelled, so my bout was scratched too. Right now, my team is in thorough negotiations to place me on the undercard of the April 14th showdown between Yuriorkis Gamboa and Brandon Rios. In June, I hope to take part on the undercard for the fight between my stablemates Manny Pacquiao and Timothy Bradley. Right after that, if successful of course, we shall think about something really serious. I just hope that I'll avoid any injuries in the future," Korobov said.

Korobov debuted as a pro in 2008 under Top Rank. In his last fight, Matvey, also known as Matt, stopped Latif Mundy in four rounds.

Can't believe TR is letting this guy stink. Matt is explosive and would be exciting to watch and follow.
