Klitschko vs. Stiverne Talks Continue, Money The Issue

By Luke Furman

The negotiations continue for a match between WBC heavyweight champion Vitali Klitschko (44-2, 41 KOs) and mandatory challenger Bermane Stiverne (23-1-1, 20 KOs). If they are unable to reach an agreement, the World Boxing Council has scheduled a purse bid for June 3rd.

The main issue preventing a finalized agreement is money. As we previously reported, Stiverne's promoter, Don King, requested a purse of $2 million for his fighter and he also wants the television rights to broadcast the fight in the United States.

Meanwhile, Klitschko camp is standing firm on their offer of $1 million (excluding the rights to broadcast the fight). Apparently King is willing to meet them in the middle by reducing his financial requirements to $1.5 million.

Last month Stiverne defeated Chris Arreola in a final eliminator to earn the shot at Vitali.
I'm pretty sure Stivetne is the WBC mandatory? Blame the WBC, not Vitali... Unless you think he should just drop his belt so he can satisfy you, I don't see the problem here...
He's been the Mando since the Alexander/Matthysse…

Whatever Klitschko offers it will be less than Stiverne will make letting it go to a purse bid. K2 will make sure they win that bid and it would make no sense to offer him more now than they would…
Holmes would be use to fighting stiffs. Simply because he fought a lot of them during his title reign.
I agree - people that are not old enough to remember the Heavyweight divison back in the 80's don't remember…

1.5 mil is a good compromise. Not like Stiverne nets that anyway. And either Klit makes so much more than that it's insane. Kinda like Pac gives his challengers 5 mil lately, while Floydie only coughed up 3 mil for…

I think 1 Million is enough purse for Stiverne. He has just one good win against Arreola. But Don King is a delusional old man.
