LAS VEGAS --- Amir Khan believes his victory over Luis Collazo should land him the next shot at Floyd Mayweather, but there has already been talk about a Mayweather-Marcos Maidana rematch in September.
"I mean, if it happens, it happens," Khan said. "I think people know I fought Maidana and how convincing the win was and we put him down. Maidana is a great champion, a great fighter. But I really believe styles make fights in boxing and the style I have with the speed, explosiveness and movement will give Floyd a lot of problems. I mean, Maidana boxed a little tonight, which we haven't seen much of. He was like catching Floyd, so like I said I'd love the fight with Floyd and if it happens, it happens."
Khan believes he brings something to table that Mayweather has never seen.
"Speed, I'm quicker than Floyd," Khan said. "I bring explosiveness. I proved that I bring power to the table with the speed. I think we bring the full package. Again, I'm working hard with Virgil (Hunter). I'm still improving."
Khan said he saw some areas when Mayweather might declining at this stage of his career.
"Floyd's a master class in boxing, but I've never lost a fight when it comes to boxing," Khan said. "Floyd has taken people apart. When it comes to a fight, Floyd would be a boxing fight, a boxing match. It will be skills and youth that will definitely take it."
There's one big problem. Mayweather's next fight is going to be in September from all indications, so that would take Khan out of the mix. Khan, a Muslim, would not have enough time to prepare properly prepare for a fight in September because that is right around Ramadan. Muslims observe the holiday by fasting from June 28-July 28. Mayweather side-stepped questions about facing Khan.
'That's right, I can't do September due to Ramadan," Khan said. "It's religious."
Could he forgo Ramadan to land the fight of his life?
"Look, Ramadan only comes once a year," Khan said. "For religious purposes I respect that. I wouldn't do that in September. It won't happen in September. I mean, push it back to November and it could happen."
