Former champion Amir Khan believes a fight with WBC welterweight king Floyd Mayweather Jr. is the perfect match to prove his doubters wrong. Khan, along with Marcos Maidana, are the two frontrunners to face Mayweather on May 3rd at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas.
Mayweather had an official poll on his website, where Khan defeated Maidana as the "selected choice" for May 3.
Khan is waiting to see if Mayweather makes good on his promise to face the winner of the poll.
The British boxer says his speed, and his boxing ability, will create a lot of problems for Mayweather.
"Canelo couldn't get close to him because Floyd was that much quicker. He had the crisper shots. He has speed on his side. A lot of people felt that he would get old and get slow. But he's getting better as he's getting older. That's why I think he needs a fresh, young fighter in front of him that's going to give him problems," Khan said.
"I'm a good fighter. I'm always being put down by people, who say I'm not a good fighter. That kind of motivates me and gives me the extra push to go in the gym to work hard. Being an underdog motivates me more. If I go up against Mayweather, I know I'll be the underdog and I want to prove people wrong. I love proving people wrong. If you look at my last few fights, I was at the top of the bill, the favorite to win. Against Mayweather I would be the underdog and I can prove my point to the world."
