Porter-Diaz Draw: Gomez, Centeno, Pearson Win By KO

By Ernest Gabion

Los Angeles Sports Arena, Los Angeles, California - Touted Haymon prospect Chris Pearson upped his record to 7-0 6KOs as he easily dispatched Yusmani Abreu with a 5th round stoppage. Pearson controlled most of the action and had no major issues with Abreu dominating the fight forcing Abreu's corner to call a halt to the action after the 5th round.  Abreu drops to 3-6-1

The Showtime Extreme opener saw an entertaining battle between rising prospect Shawn Showtime Porter and Julio Kidd Diaz. Porter's youth carried him early on as his speed and strength garnered him the early rounds. However, Diaz skill started to take control of the action towards the middle as he was able to befuddle Porter at times.

As the fight leveled off, both fighters had their moments including a very spirited 8th round where both guys gave as good as they received. The final two rounds carried on the splendid action with Diaz pursuing Porter trying to keep him in front of him. As the final bell sounded both guys gave a fantastic performance as the result indicates as the judges scored the fight 96-94 Porter 96-94 Diaz and the final  score of 95-95 making it a spirited draw. Porter now stands at 20-0-1 (14KOs) while Diaz moves to 40-7-1 (29KOs)

It took all of 48 seconds for once heralded prospect Frankie “Pitbull” Gomez to dispatch of Pavel Miranda. Gomez pressured Miranda from the outset and landed a perfect combination that dropped Miranda hard forcing the referee to put a halt to the contest. Gomez continues his comeback now at a perfect 14-0 (11KOs) while Miranda falls to 19-9-1 (10KOs)

Hugo Centeno systematically broke down the tough and rugged Allen Conyers forcing Conyer’s corner to call a stop to the fight just prior to the 7th round. Before that,Centeno dropped Conyers in the opening round and aside from the occasional landed shot was never in danger. Centeno keeps his undefeated record in tact at 17-0 (9KOs) while Conyers drops to 12-8 (9KOs)

Jerren Cochran opened the evening session with an uninspired 4 round decision over Chris Lopez. Sloppy from the outset both fighters never really impressed but Cochran’s overall skills keep him undefeated at 7-0 (3KOs) while Lopez now stands at 5-1 (2KOs)
