British superstar Amir Khan says he was so serious about fighting Floyd Mayweather -- he offered to take the fight for FREE ... but Mayweather still refused him because he's "afraid," says Khan
Khan was a in Pebble Beach for the Pro-Am -- when he dished about the failed negotiations to fight the legend ... and talked some smack at the same time.
"Obviously we thought we were close to making the fight happen. To be honest with you, Floyd was too scared to fight me. I honestly have to say that, I did everything to make that fight happen. I spoke to my team. I even said I would fight him for free, just to show the world that I'm a better fighter than him. He just didn't want to fight me and wanted the easy way out," Khan said.
We also asked how he felt about the fact his next opponent, Canelo Alvarez, is already in talks to fight Gennady Golovkin later this year. Khan says Canelo is making a HUGE mistake if he looks past their May 7th bout.
"I think if I was Canelo, that would be the biggest mistake that I would be making. If he's looking past this fight and looking ahead to the Triple G fight, I think he's really making a mistake because I think I can beat him and win this fight. If he loses this fight, I don't think that fight will be there," Khan said.
