AMIR KHAN has backed Carl Froch's experience to see him past George Groves second time around.

The Bolton boxer has never seen eye-to-eye with Nottingham's Froch but still has respect for the WBA and IBF super-middleweight king.

And he reckons the defending champion will retain his crown against Groves despite the 26-year-old pushing Froch all the way in their first clash last November.

Khan, who is expected to be at Wembley, said: "I like both guys even though I've had my ups and downs with Froch.

"I was on the edge of my seat watching the first one and I'm excited about this one.

"I'm not sure who is going to be the winner. I was saying the first one that Groves would win because he is the underdog.

"But this time it is 50-50 and maybe Froch will take it because he knows what to expect.

"Froch is taking it more seriously this time.

"I think Froch might take it with the experience he has got, he might start a bit quicker and be more composed."

Froch was put on his back in the first round last time with a heavy right hand.

He recovered to eventually stop Groves - albeit in controversial fashion - in the ninth round.

And Khan, who has come back from knockout defeats by Breidis Prescott and Danny Garcia, is confident Froch will not be mentally damaged from taking such a huge shot.

He said: "He will be fine. Being a fighter you get over stuff like that, it's not hard especially at elite level.

"It has never affected me. I always go into a fight knowing there are things that will go wrong which is how you come back from it.

"I'm in the toughest sport in the world where you make a mistake, you get knocked out by one punch. But it doesn't make you a bad fighter because anyone can get knocked out."

Former light-welterweight world champion Khan has had a long-standing feud with Froch despite never sharing a ring together.

They used to exchange insults on Twitter and Froch blanked Khan when they saw each other at the last BBC Sports Personality of the Year Awards.

But Khan is still happy to see his rival earning a massive pay day with 80,000 fans set to pack Wembley on Saturday night.

The Bolton man added: "He just blanks me. I never had beef with him, he always had it with me.

"Last time I seen him was at the Sports Personality of the year, he blanked me and I blanked him.

"I would talk to him, I'm a good guy. He wants to act like that so it is fine.

"It is a good fight for both fighters and they will make a lot of money, it is good to see that.

"It is good for boxing in Britain, it builds it up and gets the hype back again."
