The bout has been arranged after Khan's rematch against Lamont Peterson for the WBA and IBF light-welterweight titles, which was due to be staged earlier this month, was cancelled after Peterson failed a drug test.

According to Amir "King" Khan (26-2), the Briton's upcoming HBO televised fight against WBC junior welterweight champion Danny Garcia (23-0) will take place at the Mandalay Bay Hotel and Casino in Las Vegas. The doubleheader is scheduled for July 14th. The fight was originally slated to take place at the Honda Center in Anaheim, California on July 7th - but when the pay-per-view involving Juan Manuel Marquez fell through for July 14th - Golden Boy took over the date.

Golden Boy Promotions CEO Richard Schaefer has advised BoxingScene.com that a deal has been reached for Amir "King" Khan (26-2, 18KOs) to challenge WBC junior welterweight champion Danny Garcia (23-0, 14KOs) in an HBO televised main event on July 14th, either from the Honda Center in Anaheim, California or the Mandalay Bay in Las Vegas. Heavyweight propsect Seth Mitchell (25-0-1, 19KOs) will open up the broadcast against Johnathan Banks (28-1-1, 18KOs).

Junior-welterweight titleholder Danny Garcia says he won’t step in to face Amir Khan unless their fight is a unification bout — something that will not happen unless Lamont Peterson gets stripped of his belts. “A unification bout with Khan is the only way we can fight,” Garcia tweeted Friday evening. “If he don’t get his belts back then I will have to face my mandatory.”
