Danny Garcia's eccentric father stole the show as the WBC light-welterweight champion came face to face with Amir Khan ahead of Saturday's unification fight in Las Vegas. Angel Garcia, who has made unsavoury comments about WBA champion Khan's Pakistani heritage in the past, gave an impassioned, heated speech at the main pre-fight press conference in which he touched on religion and then sat making gestures when it was Khan's turn to speak, holding up his son's belt, pulling faces, pretending to punch himself in the face and shouting comments

Tensions exploded at the Mandalay Bay in Las Vegas. Junior welterweight champions Amir Khan and Danny Garcia started trading insults back and forth until the boxers were pulled apart by their camps. They clash this Saturday night in an HBO headliner. The WBA/WBC/Ring titles will be at stake in the contest. The press conference was heated, with both cmps taking shots at each other.

Shortly after the Las Vegas grand arrival of one of his star fighters, Amir Khan, I had a few words with four-time trainer of the year Freddie Roach inside of the main lobby of the Mandalay Bay. On Saturday night, Khan will be meeting upstart WBC champion Danny Garcia in an HBO-televised attraction, yet it is a fight that wasn’t expected. Having lost to Lamont Peterson by split-decision last December, Khan was eyeing a May 19th rematch with the Washington, D.C. native. The second encounter wasn’t meant to be, however, as Peterson was found to have been tested positive for synthetic testosterone in early May, with the fight being scrapped days later.

They collide this Saturday night at the same venue, which will be televised live on HBO World Championship Boxing® in the United States and live on Sky Sports 1 HD in the United Kingdom. Amir Khan has been reinstated as WBA light-welterweight champion by the governing body following his controversial loss to Lamont Peterson, according to his promoter. The Briton lost his WBA and IBF belts in a hotly-disputed loss to Peterson in the Washington fighter's hometown last December.

By Jake Donovan - This weekend doesn’t pose the ideal situation for Amir Khan. The 2004 Olympic silver medalist and former unified 140 lb. titlist hasn’t fought since last December and isn’t even facing his desired opponent once he steps into the ring to face Danny Garcia at the Mandalay Bay in Las Vegas. Khan was hoping to avenge last year’s loss to Lamont Peterson. Plans were in place for a May 19 rematch but were canceled once Peterson tested positive for synthetic testosterone during pre-fight random drug testing. Comments were made by Khan and his handlers, questioning the validity of the first fight and filing even more protests over a verdict that never sat well with the Brit. Rather than continue to stress over unfinished business, Khan now focuses on what lies immediately ahead. There’s no concern about what can happen with a win, a tactic the British star has employed far too often in the past. Instead, a maturation process has set in as all of Khan’s attention is placed solely on Garcia and the best means of victory over the Philly fighter this weekend.

Amir Khan has no doubt that his world light-welterweight title bout with Danny Garcia is a bigger fight than the grudge match between David Haye and Dereck Chisora. Khan's contest at the Mandalay Bay in Las Vegas on Saturday falls on the same day as the two British heavyweight rivals settle their differences at Upton Park.
