Former champion Amir Khan (31-3, 19KOs) is not overlooking the magnitude of a domestic cracker with IBF welterweight champion Kell Brook (35-0, 24KOs).

Brook has gone after Khan for the last two years with no success. Khan has focused most of his energy, if not all, on getting a crack at Floyd Mayweather Jr.

Khan was passed over by Mayweather on three occasions. He is now involved in negotiations to face eight division world champion Manny Pacquiao in early 2016. The fight with Pacquiao would be an HBO Pay-Per-View event.

Brook is set to defend his title next month against dangerous Diego Chaves.

According to Khan, the fight could be a lot bigger if Brook beats some better known opponents.

Khan is not ruling out a potential fight with Brook in the future. His trainer, Vigil Hunter, is also on board and would like to see that fight happen sooner than later.

Khan told The Bolton News: "You have got Kell Brook, which is a fight I would love to take as well, [my trainer] Virgil [Hunter] wants it and I want it. It would be a big British fight and me and Kell are of a similar age, so I think maybe it works out better to have that fight happen a bit later when he has built his reputation up a little more and fought some bigger and better names, but you know there is a fight there one day."

Kahn admits there is some bad blood with his countryman, but the real motivation to fight - and win - is to set the record straight as to which of them is the better welterweight in Britain.

“It might be a little bit of a grudge match [with Brook]. It's all about just setting out who is the number one in Britain in the welterweight division – is it Kell Brook or Amir Khan? – it is about setting the record straight," Khan said.
