He has not fought at that time of year, though, since his brutal defeat to Breidis Prescott in 2008 due to his commitment to the Muslim festival of Ramadan.

Welterweight contender Frankie Gavin believes former amateur teammate Amir Khan has made the wrong move by avoiding Brook and instead choosing a safer fight against Chris Algieri as he continues to chase a shot at Floyd Mayweather. Khan was offered the opportunity to face Brook on June 13th, but passed due to Ramadan. Now Khan is heading in the direction of facing former WBO 140-pound champion Chris Algieri, while Gavin has been offered a showdown against Brook on May 30th. "I don't know what it is with Khan," said Gavin.

Earlier today, Khan revealed that his next opponent for late May has not been finalized. Former WBO junior welterweight champion Chris Algieri has been mentioned, but no agreement has been reached. Khan denies that Showtime rejected a potential fight with Algieri. He says there have been no serious discussions with any of the networks, because his next opponent has not been finalized.

Khan released a video several days ago where he named Algieri as the likely candidate to face him at the end of the May. That fight is still being discussed, but no deal has been finalized. He had hoped to land a fight with WBC middleweight champion Miguel Cotto. That possibility fell through when Cotto scheduled June 6th as his return date. Khan is planning to return at the end of May in order to properly prepare for the start of Ramadan, on June 17th. According to Khan, he will need at least two weeks to prepare for Ramadan, and plans to start those preparations immediately following his May return.
Earlier this year, Golden Boy Promotions and manager/adviser Al Haymon reached an undisclosed agreement to go their separate ways. Haymon walked away with an army of his fighters. But, a very small number of Haymon's fighters remained contractually obligated to Golden Boy. However, there was a contractual clause in those remaining contracts which allow Haymon to fully purchase them. One fighter who many believed was still contractually obligated to Golden Boy was Amir Khan (30-3, 19KOs).
