Kevin Mitchell admits Darren Barker has inspired him to start his own journey to a world title on Saturday night.
Mitchell watched his stablemate Barker win the IBF middleweight title in August and he can take a step closer to big name bouts with a win over Marco Lopez at London's 02 Arena, live on Sky Sports.
The Dagenham fighter failed to dethrone WBO lightweight champion Ricky Burns last year, but believes he is a few wins away from getting back to the top level.
Mitchell, who trains alongside Barker at Tony Sims' gym, told skysports.com: "It definitely gives you an incentive. It shows you what you can actually do.
"I've been mates with Darren since I was a young kid. We've won national titles together. To see him go and do that shows that you can do it.
"He's been through a lot of struggles Darren and he's come out of the other side and he's shining.
"Two or three more fights and I'll be back up there again."
Mitchell is part of an exciting British lightweight division that also includes Derry Mathews, Anthony Crolla and Gavin Rees.
A possible meeting with Mathews has been mentioned this week, but Mitchell insists he is willing to face any of his rivals.
"Either one of them, I don't really care. They are just domestic dust ups," said the east Londoner.
"They can be hard fights if you are not prepared right, but the way I'm training right now I'll always be prepared right and in great shape.
"I look at them as good fights, but I'll do what I have to do to get that world title fight."
When asked about a possible clash with Mathews, Mitchell said: "Yeah I want the fight. It's an explosive fight and people want to see it.
"We're two big punchers. He's a big ticket seller in Liverpool, I'm a big ticket seller down here. Let's just see what happens. "
