Kevin Mitchell: Burns, A Lovely Lad But I Have To KO Him!

British lightweight contender Kevin Mitchell (33-1, 24KOs) set his sights on an all-British world title fight with Scotland's Ricky Burns (33-2, 9KOs) after beating Felix Lora at London's York Hall. Mitchell outpointed his Dominican rival over 10 rounds before challenging WBO lightweight champion Burns.

"I'll be a world champion in the summer, I promise you," said Mitchell. "I'll have another fight in March and we'll fight Burns in the summer. Ricky Burns is a lovely lad but I'm going to have to beat him."

Mitchell, 27, fought Australia's Michael Katsidis for the WBO interim lightweight title in 2010 only to be stopped in three rounds. However, he stopped Manchester's John Murray in eight rounds last July  to put himself back into world title contention.

Agreed, cant understand why someone that just put in a poor perfomance against a guy with no boxing skills would start running his mouth about being a world champion. If he thought he was ready for burns he wouldnt be…

I like Ricky Burns, so I hope he wins. We're getting some excellent domestic fights now.

Yeah, sure, Kev. Burns is gonna surprise you. Too physical, too big, too sharp a boxer these days. I really can't see Mitchell winning even if it's in his backyard.
