| Kessler's Manager Fires Back: Andre Ward Held 88 Times!
|
|
By Oscar Nielsen Mikkel Kessler's manager and advisor Allan Back, speaking to Danish network Sporten, fired back at unified super middleweight champion Andre Ward. BoxingScene.com ran a recent article and video interview with Ward, where the boxer said he "lost all respect" for Kessler - stating the Danish boxer created excuses to explain his technical decision loss when they faced each other in the Super Six. Back says Ward is wrong when he says Kessler is lying about several headbutts that occurred in their 2009 encounter in Oakland, California: "If we take the main issues about the headbutts, that Ward calls accidental, and the boring style, you just have to look at the fight and ask yourself if it's not spoiling and boring when he clinches 88 times", Back says and continues. "That's the number of times he held Kessler and that in itself tells you a bit about Ward's style. Mikkel Kessler has not said, as claimed by Ward, that the loss was due to the headbutts. Kessler said that the butts and the injuries had an effect on him. He is not using it as an excuse." "In any case Kessler does not worry about Ward right now. All he thinks about is his upcoming fight with Carl Froch in Nottingham, the Cobra's home country. Ward should learn from that. If he is so eager to fight Kessler, he should come to Denmark. Mikkel has been to Oakland and fought on his terms. Ward has never left his country which sums it up pretty well." Tags: Andre Ward , Mikkel Kessler |
Why did Kessler, as champion, go to Oakland to fight?
Ward, like it or not, had the ref and the judges in his pocket.
I re-watched the fight recently. Ward DELIBERATELY butted Kessler at any opportunity. It's a shame, because he could have probably won a wide UD without resortin... |
Totally agree.
I'm a fan of both fighters; but i'd like to see a rematch in Denmark. I think it'd be competitive.
Ward clearly viewed Kessler as a BIG threat in the S6, so resorted to dirty tactics.
So, why would holding the fight in Denmark allow Kessler to be compet... |
