Kalle Sauerland of promotional company Sauerland Event, says WBO super middleweight champion Robert Stieglitz is the main target for Mikkel Kessler's next fight. Last week BoxingScene.com had posted a report which announced Kessler's approval as the mandatory challenger to Stieglizt's title. There had been some speculation on whether Kessler would face IBF champion Lucian Bute, but the Danish's star path has become very clear.
"Right now it seems that Stieglitz is the boxer we are concentrating on. The negotiations will begin Tuesday morning," said Sauerland to Danish television.
Sauerland doubts the fight will end up in Denmark. Kessler doesn't have a problem with traveling to Germany to face Stieglitz on his home ground.
"Stieglitz is a boxer who has a TV contract in Germany. He's been marketed well in Germany, so he has many fans and he is world champion and it is difficult to get a world champion on foreign territory. I'm always very optimistic, but in this case the odds are against us getting the match in Denmark," Sauerland said.
