On Friday, IBF welterweight champion Jan Zaveck (31-1) retained his title when he knocked out Paul Delgado (25-10) in the fifth round of his title defense in Slovenia. In the months leading up to the fight, Zaveck's team had been attempting to secure a fight with Saul "Canelo" Alvarez of Mexico. It has been reported that Zaveck is looking to make a name for himself in the U.S.

Former welterweight champion Kermit Cintron contacted BoxingScene.com after reading Zaveck's plans. Cintron, who recently signed a co-promotional deal with Top Rank, told BoxingScene that he is planning to make noise at 147, again.

"I'm planning to go back down to 147-pounds and I'm looking to become a world champion again.  I feel like I never finished what I started at welter.  I would like to get a world title then unify it if its possible."

Cintron feels that the best fighters aren't fighting the best and that is something that he intends to change. Cintron also took a shot at Andre Berto whom he has been campaigning for a fight since last November here on BoxingScene.

"None of these champions wants to fight  other good fighters.  Berto is a good example of that (laughing)."

When Zaveck said he wanted to make a name for himself in the U.S. Cintron felt like he could present the perfect challenge for the champion from Europe.

"Zaveck is looking to fight bigger name fighters and I am willing to fight him.  He wants to come to the U.S and I definitely would not mind taking the title from him."

Cintron has not fought since losing four round technical decision to Paul Williams last May.  He is looking to return to the ring soon.

"I'm anxious to get back in the ring and start knocking guys out again."
