Kell Brook: I'm Smoking Jones, Knocking His Lights Out!

By Kevin Francis, courtesy of The Daily Star

KELL BROOK has told Carson Jones he’s going to “knock his lights out” tonight.

Brook faces Carson in an eliminator for the IBF welterweight title at Sheffield’s Motorpoint Arena, and the unbeaten Steel City fighter is fired up after they clashed at their head-to-head press conference.

Brook said: “I don’t like this kid. Come Saturday night, I’m going to knock his lights out. He is going to get smoked! I will sort him out, believe me.

“He’s got under my skin with some of the things he’s said and I’m going to make him pay. He just gets me going with some of the things he says.

“Carson Jones is standing in front of me for that world title. I’m in touching distance of it and this is the most important fight of my career.

“The Americans are starting to hear about me now and so I want to be making a statement in this fight and taking care of Carson in style.

“They are talking about me, along with their elite fighters over there, and saying, ‘This English kid, he’s a force to be reckoned with’.

“It’s up to me to get that title and do Britain proud, to go over there to other people’s backyards and really take them by storm.”

Jones is perceived in Britain as another stepping stone towards Brook’s world title shot, but the heavy-handed Oklahoma man is ranked higher by the IBF.

Brook is fifth in the IBF ratings, while Jones is third. The winner must then square off with No.4 Hector Saldivia for the right to challenge for the title, recently won by Randall Bailey.

Kell Brook is somewhat right that Americans are taking notice of him and if wants to be a name over here, he needs to get on American Television more often. Fighting of the undercards in America is a smart move,…
