IBF welterweight champion Kell Brook (36-1, 25 KOs) believes that a victory over Errol Spence (21-0, 18 KOs) would make him the number one welterweight in the division - raising him above the other champions Keith Thurman and Manny Pacquiao.
Brook will make his mandatory defense against Spence on Saturday night at Bramall Lane in Sheffield.
The Sheffield boxer return to the ring for the first time since getting stopped last September at the hands of IBF, IBO, WBA, WBC middleweight champion Gennady Golovkin. For that contest Brook moved up by two full weight divisions to meet GGG at the 160-pound limit.
Right now there is a lot of confusion and debate over the top dog at 147-pounds - since the retirement of the longtime division ruler, Floyd Mayweather Jr., in September 2015.
"Beating Errol Spence Jr puts me at No 1 spot in the welterweight division," Brook told Sky Sports News HQ. "Everybody knows then that I'm the man. I want to be remembered as the guy to fight everybody, who never ducked anybody and was involved in some great, great fights.
"This fight on Saturday night's going to be up there. I think it's a candidate for fight of the year because we're both passionate about wanting to win. He's the challenger and I want to keep it in the Steel City so we're going to get a thrilling fight."
And Brook maintains that his weight is good and he feels ready for battle this weekend. There was a lot of concern over Brook straining himself to return back to the welterweight division. Brook believes everything went fine.
"I believe so," Brook said. "At this minute in time I feel good. I think we've got it right. My nutritionist Greg Marriott is meticulous with diet, I've been sparring bigger guys so I feel very healthy coming into this fight. I'm ready for it."
