WBA welterweight champion Keith 'One Time' Thurman (27-0, 22KOs) is not taking a step back from his goal of securing a fight with former five division world champion Floyd Maywetaher Jr. (49-0, 26KOs).
Thurman had hoped to get a crack at Mayweather last September, but the pound-for-pound king selected former champion Andre Berto as his opponent for the date.
After dominating Berto over twelve rounds, Mayweather announced his retirement from the sport. In recent months Mayweather has been dropping hints about the possibility of a comeback fight in the near future.
Thurman is coming off a 'Fight of The Year' decision victory over Shawn Porter, which took place last month at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, New York.
"I believe so [that he's going to fight again], I definitely would hope so. I believe that I am one of the most entertaining welterweights in the world today amongst the boxing fans. You can see when I’m in the ring, you can see it in the ratings, you can see it in the stadium," Thurman told On The Ropes Boxing Radio.
"For years and years I’ve been calling out Floyd, I’ve been wanting the opportunity, I fought my way to a mandatory position and then he got elevated to a point to where I couldn’t touch him politically with the super title. He was not obligated to face any mandatories and I was elevated to the regular champion of the world, that was a very frustrating situation for me to be in at that time in my career."
"I look forward to all challenges, I look forward to Floyd coming back and I would love for him to see ‘One Time’ just one time. I’m not going to ask for two times, I just want to get in that ring one time, twelve rounds with your boy Keith Thurman."
