K9 Bundrage on Berto Rumors, TMT, Cotto Talk, More

By Ryan Burton

IBF junior middleweight champion Cornelius "K9" Bundrage reached out to BoxingScene.com to address the rumors that have linked him to a November fight against former welterweight champion Andre Berto. Bundrage said that while he is interested in the fight, he wants to get his team in order first.

"I am trying to get with a promoter right now. First I want to get with a promoter before I make any moves," stated Bundrage.

"I've been contacted with TMT and 50 Cent.  I'm not sure if that is going to happen. I've been talking to other prospective managers and promoters too.  I hope to make a decision in the next week," he continued.

The former Contender series participant also revealed that he was in negotiations to face Miguel Cotto on December 1st.  The Puerto Rican ultimately opted to face WBA "regular" junior middleweight champion Austin Trout.

"Being America's Most Wanted has it benefits. I was close to getting the Cotto fault. My friend was contacted by Gaby and he said since I was a free agent it looked good. They said they would call me the next day with an offer for the fight. They called me the the next day and said they were fighting Trout instead.

"I know business is business. I see Canelo Alvarez got 2 million (to face Josesito Lopez) and they see Trout as less of a risk and he probably took the fight for less than I would. Its a numbers game and I understand that."

In closing the Detroit, Michigan native reiterated that he is very interested in facing Andre Berto but that he is also available to face Canelo Alvarez if the Mexican still fights in December.

"On December 8th I would be interested in fighting Canelo. I've heard those rumors about Berto. Of course I would be interested in that too. I'm a free agent though and I want to get my team together first. Its going to be a great Christmas at team K9's house.  I'm America's Most Wanted. Anybody can get it. I'm looking to get back in the ring before the end of the year," Bundrage concluded.
It's not like guys are trying to skip the line to get a shot at K9, he's not in demand. I know his age must be taken into consideration. But dayum, fighting Sechew Powell and Cory Spinks twice in his…
Why shouldnt K9 be paid? Hes 39 and hes worked and slaved for table scraps. Hes only has a couple of fights left and all he has to offer is that IBF title. So hes gonna hold that title the…
I read it fine. It doesn't change the fact that K9 will want to be paid well, and he shouldn't be. The only thing that makes him relevant is his belt, and hopefully Rosado will get his title shot soon.
…

So now K9 is mad that Trout got the Cotto fight? Then he should have fought Trout when he had the opportunity, he would have been in a better position to get big fights had he won.
Why does Berto…
I'd rather see Berto-Bundrage in November, with the winner fighting Rosado in March/April next year. I wouldn't mind seeing Canelo fight Kirkland, Molina, Dzinziruk, or even Quintana. Any of those would be fine with me for his December fight.
-winner…
